Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
-
Congratulations! Nominated candidates will receive an email notifying them of the nomination with instructions on how to complete the full application, as outlined above in the Documentation section.
Note: While we certainly appreciate that nominees would like to reach out to those who nominated them, we don't facilitate that on their behalf in the effort to maintain anonymity within the nomination process. We leave it up to those who entered nominations to contact the individual directly if they wish to notify those who they nominated.
Note: Nominations are not a substitute for one of the required references
-
There is no need to wait for a nomination as it is not a requirement for the 2024 YWE Awards application. Please consider applying without a nomination, as self-nominations are highly encouraged!
-
There is no age restriction to be a YWE member, however the YWE Awards are specifically looking for women with 5-15 years of professional experience. The age limit for the YWE Awards is 40 or younger (as of December 31, 2024). While we can appreciate different career paths, and how important recognition is, the age restriction is to ensure applicants are within equal scope.
-
Nope! The annual YWE Awards are open to all Alberta residents!
-
Unfortunately, applicants must reside and work in the province of Alberta.
-
We’re looking for women who work ‘in’ an energy company, or ‘for’ a company that has primarily energy clients. For example, companies such as: E&Ps, small, medium and large energy corporations, energy services, energy law, consulting for energy clients, financial institutions with energy clients, energy tech start-ups, engineering firms, midstream companies, renewable energy companies, nuclear, hydrogen, carbon capture technologies, etc. are all acceptable.
-
Use the Personal Statement as an opportunity to explain why you’re applying for the Award; why you want to be recognized; what you have accomplished; how you intend to use the platform and mentorship program to advance; what your career aspirations are; and how you intend to continue to impact the industry in the future. We know it’s a lot to expect for 500 words, but use it as an opportunity to show our Selection Committee why you deserve to win!
-
You can submit just one (1) peer reference, and one (1) professional reference.
-
Look to your coworkers or clients in a similar role level to you, who can speak to your accomplishments from a peer perspective.
-
The best applications have professional references from senior leaders within your company - those who can speak to your skill set, your commitment to industry and your experience. The more senior, the better (i.e. VP level), but with an understanding that you work directly with that senior leader, and they can accurately reference your accomplishments for recognition.
-
Absolutely, the professional reference does not have to come from a current employer or client and can be from someone you previously worked with or for.
-
No, only one (1) peer and one (1) professional reference will be accepted. Please note the word and page limit, as they will be enforced to ensure all applicants are within equal scope.
-
Your resume should be limited to 2 pages, but should show your career progression, detail specific accomplishments, describe significant projects you led or initiated, anything innovative or continuous improvement related, as well as show any relevant extracurriculars and your involvement in the industry or greater community.
-
Absolutely. We encourage previous applicants to apply again this year!
-
After the deadline on January 8, 2025, each application will undergo scoring by the Peer Selection Committee, and shortlisted applicants will go to the Executive Selection Committee, with the final decision lying with the YWE Awards team.
-
Each year, YWE engages with six (6) senior executives for their expertise and leadership to help identify the top young women in Alberta's energy industry to receive the recognition and benefits of a YWE Award Winner.
The 2024 Executive Selection Committee is comprised of:Dan Balaban | CEO | Greengate Power
Scott Burrows | CEO | Pembina Pipeline
Keith Chiasson | EVP & COO | Cenovus nergy
Vineeta Maguire | CEO | Energy Safety Canada
Chana Martineau | CEO | Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation
